How to Find HM 07 Waterfall in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

You can find HM 07 Waterfall in the Icefall Caves in Four Island. Gain access to Four Island after getting the Rainbow Pass from Celio. Head inside the Icefall Caves and navigate your way through the slippery ice mazes to find the Pokéball item containing Waterfall.

Heading to Four Island

To go to Four Island, first head to Vermillion City.

Go to Vermillion Harbor where the Seagallop Ferry is docked. Present your Rainbow Pass to the sailor to board the ship. You can get a Rainbow Pass from Celio after finding and delivering the Ruby to him at One Island.

Board the ship to arrive at Four Island.

From the island marker and the Pokémon Center, head southwest past Lorelei’s house to climb down the cliff steps.

From here, you can see a small strip of water to your right. Approach it and have your Pokémon use Surf.

Cross the body of water and arrive at the other side to find a cave opening. Head inside to find yourself in the Icefall Cave.

Inside the Icefall Cave

Once inside, use Surf again on the body of water in front of you. You will see a waterfall up ahead, but we can’t climb it yet. Instead, go inside the cave opening you see on your left.

At this part of the cave, you will see unique tiles that look frozen over.

Walk over them one time and you will see them crack. Walk over them the second time and you will fall into the hole, to be transported into another part of the cave.

With this in mind, continue up ahead in the area you just entered until you see the first frozen tile. Walk past it, letting the ice crack.

Continue onwards the two sets of tiles to your left and veer right.

Alternatively, you can choose the rightmost set of tiles to pick up an Ultra Ball on the way. Just make sure to double-back on the second set of tiles to head right.

At this point, you will be presented with two frozen tiles, one to the top and one in front of you to the right.

Choose the topmost tile and walk over it once to break it. Walk over it again to fall into the hole.

Upon falling into the hole, you will see a new area with a huge stretch of slippery floor tiles. Ignore them for now as we will encounter them again later on.

Head up the stairs right in front of you to arrive in a new area.

Here you will find two more frozen tiles. Choose the bottom tile and walk over it twice until you fall into its hole.

You will now be transported into the area from before. Pay attention to how the character sprite moves when you try to walk into the slippery tiles. From where you land, step upwards until you hit the small boulder.

From here, turn right to have your character automatically glide to your right, until another rock stops your movement.

Move upwards to hit another rock by the cave wall.

Then turn left to hit the leftmost rock by the stairs. Hit the cave wall upwards and turn right again.

From this rock, glide some way downwards until you get stopped by a rock once more.

Head to your right to the cave floor and walk as normal.

Finally, slide to your left once last time to hit the biggest rock. Go down and walk on the regular cave floor to head up the stairs.

When you climb up the stairs, you should immediately see a Pokéball right in front of you.

Using Waterfall Outside of Battle

Waterfall is a powerful move that can deal a huge amount of damage to foes.

You can also teach it to Water Pokémon so they can climb waterfalls.

But before you can use Waterfall outside of battle, you need to have beaten Cinnabar Island’s Gym Leader, Blaine. Blaine specializes in Fire-type Pokémon, so Water and Ice-types are best to use against him.

Upon winning, Blaine will grant you the Volcanobadge which allows the use of Waterfall outside of battle.

To be able to reach Sevii Islands at this point of the game, you have most likely already beaten Blaine, so go ahead and teach Waterfall to your Pokémon.

You can then have your Pokémon climb the waterfall in Icefall Caves.

HM 07 Waterfall is a unique hidden move only accessible at the later stages of the game. Aside from being a powerful attack move, teaching Waterfall to your Pokémon will enable them to ferry you atop raging waterfalls. See what else you can discover by exploring the waterfalls found in-game!
