You can find the Macho Brace in Viridian City’s Gym. Beat Gym Leader Giovanni and from where he stood, use your Item Finder to recover a buried Macho Brace. Have your Pokémon hold it to double its effort values gained in battle.
Viridian City Gym
Viridian City’s Gym is initially locked at the early stages of the game, with its gym leader unknown.
By following the game’s main storyline, namely foiling Team Rocket’s plans and beating the seven gym leaders, the gym will eventually open for you to challenge its leader.
Go to Viridian City and battle your way through the gym to find that the gym leader is actually Giovanni from Team Rocket!
Beat Giovanni with your Pokémon. He mostly uses ground-type Pokémon, so water types are at an advantage.
After you’ve beaten Giovanni and heard his speech, he will bid farewell and leave the gym.
Once he’s left, use your Item Finder on where he stood, and a prompt will say that something is buried on the ground.
Click on it to recover the Macho Brace.
Equipping the Macho Brace
The Macho Brace is intended to be held by a Pokémon. It doubles the holder’s strength at the expense of having lower speed. It also increases Effort Values gained in battle.
