How to Beat Fuchsia City’s Gym Leader in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

Koga, the Poisonous Ninja Master heads Fuchsia City’s Gym. You can beat Koga by utilizing your Pokémon type advantage against his Poison Pokémon. The rest of his gym members also use Poison and Psychic types.

Fuchsia City Gym

Fuchsia City Gym is located immediately to the left of the town Pokémon Center.

From where you enter, the gym layout is as follows:

It may appear straightforward and easy to reach Koga, but the path towards him is blocked by invisible lines on the wall. Here’s a clearer illustration of how to navigate your way towards Koga.

The rest of the gym members and their Pokémon will be as follows:

Starting from the entrance, the trainer on the left has the following Pokémon party:

Move to your right and battle the trainer near the invisible wall.

Make your way up ahead to fight the next trainer just above the previous one.

Hug the wall to your right until you reach the trainer by the rightmost corner.

Follow the path to the left and fight the trainer here.

Finally, battle the last trainer just below the previous one.

You can now navigate through the paths to head straight to Koga. The directional arrows below would guide you on how to get to Fuchsia’s Gym Leader.

Finally, you will be face-to-face with Koga. Save up before you engage him in battle!

Battling Fuchsia City’s Koga

Koga is known as the poisonous ninja master, as he specializes in Poison type Pokémon.

His Pokémon party and their moves are summarized in the image below. Poison-type Pokémon are weak to Ground and Psychic-types, so make sure you use this to your advantage.

Koga will also be prone to using poison-inflicting moves on you, so be prepared with your Antidotes and Potions. On the other hand, Koga is also prepared to use Hyper Potions when his Pokémon’s HP gets sufficiently low.

If your level is high enough as your foes, you can battle them with no problem even without a type advantage. Continue flinging your attacks on Koga’s Pokémon until they faint.

After succeeding, Koga will grant you the Soulbadge.

You will also get the ability to use Surf outside of battle, and Pokémon of Level 60 and above will continue to obey you.

Finally, Koga awards you TM 06 which contains Toxic, a useful move you can have your Pokémon learn.

And with that, you have earned your fifth gym badge! Only three more to go before you are ready to face the Elite Four and be a Pokémon League champ.
