How to Get the Star Egg in Super Mario RPG

To get the Star Egg, we need to gamble quite a lot in the game. You have to win a game against the Knife Guy in the Booster Tower 10 times before you can get access to a casino game from within Bean Valley that you have to beat 100 times. Don’t worry, as excessive as it seems, it’s fairly easy to do. And Mario gets to play for free in exchange for some goodies.

The Star Egg is a rare item in the game, and it’s pretty much one of the most powerful items that you can use in battle. It deals 100 damage to enemies and can even be boosted up to 150 if you have the “Attack Up” effect. Another great thing about it is that you can use it an unlimited number of times, unlike other items.

How do we get it?

Before making your way to Grate Guy’s Casino, you have to head first to Booster Tower to meet up with the Knife Guy.

You’ll encounter quite a few Rob-ombs and other enemies in Booster Tower, but most of them are easy to beat, and a great way to rack up those EXPs.

Directions to the room with the Knife Guy:

Play the guessing game by watching which hand the yellow ball will fall into last. It could get a bit tricky, considering that Knife Guy will speed up his juggling to confuse you. Just head to the hand where you last saw the yellow ball hit.

But don’t fret, because you don’t have to win consecutively. Most of the prizes you’ll get are either the Rotten Mushroom or the Moldy Mushroom, just throw these away if you have a full inventory.

You have to win 10 times so you get rewarded with a Bright Card. This will serve as your pass to Grate Guy’s Casino.

Head back to the Bean Valley until you reach the area with five Smilaxes on pipes.

Wait for the Shy Away to water them and watch it grow before approaching the Smilar. Beat the Smilax on the uppermost side, then go down on the pipe.

When you get to the other side of the room, you’ll see a Chomp Chomp in the corner. Beat him.

Stand in the corner right next to where the Chomp Chomp was. Jump three times to create a platform, you’ll know you’re hitting the right spot when you hear a sound. Another path will appear.

Jump onto the platform and head straight to the path out of Bean Valley. You’ll see Grate Guy’s Casino.

There are a few games that you can play here, but we’re only focused on his “Look the Other Way” game this time.

You have to play this 100 times—and not consecutively. You just need 100 accumulated wins, and you can easily toss the countless Moldy Mushrooms and Rotten Mushrooms.

You have a 50/50 chance of winning this, because you just have to either press left or right on the d-pad. You win when you look in the opposite direction. And it’s also good that Mario gets to play this game for free, plus it’s relatively quick to finish. Make sure you can allot maybe 20-30 minutes to get the required number of wins.
