All Secret Treasure Chest locations in Super Mario RPG

There are 39 secret treasure chests scattered across 17 locations in Super Mario RPG. Inside these chests contain a 1 type of a variety of items from hard to get frog coins or gold coins, extremely rare items such as red elixirs or rock candies to useful recovery items such as Kerokero colas, flower tabs or recovery mushrooms.

In this guide, We will be showing you ALL Secret treasure chest locations and how to get them in Super Mario RPG.

*For players who want to collect ALL of the secret treasure chests in the game, we recommend that you start a new game for your playthrough since one of the Secret Treasure Chests are easily missed if you haven’t managed to get it early in the game.

How to keep track of Secret Treasure Chests

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to keep track of how many secret treasure chests you have unlocked or how how many are still left in the game. This feature is only available when you reach Monstro Town by talking to the Secret Chest Tallier at the 2nd floor of Monstermama’s House.

Mushroom Kingdom Secret Treasure Chests (1-3)

There are 3 Secret Treasure Chests that can be looted in Mushroom Kingdom. The 1st Secret Treasure Chest is the missable chest so it’s best that you save your game at the inn outside before exploring the castle. Bandit’s Way Secret Treasure Chest (4)

There is only 1 Secret Treasure Chest in Bandit’s Way located at Bandit’s Way Area 2. The chest contains a Kerokero Cola.

Rose Town Secret Treasure Chest (5-6)

There are 2 Secret Treasure Chests in Rose Town. You can get them as soon as you unlock the area from the world map or later in the game.

Forest Maze Secret Treasure Chest locations (7-12)

Forest Maze has a total of 6 Secret Treasure Chests in the game. Please note that 1 of these chests contain nothing inside.

Pipe Vault and Yo’ster Isle (13-15)

There are a total of 3 Secret Treasure Chests for Pipe Vault and Yo’ster Isle. 2 of the secret chests are located side by side in the pipe vault area and the last 1 can be located before entering Yo’ster Isle.

Booster Pass Secret Treasure Chests (16-17)

Fortunately, the 2 Secret Treasure Chests in Booster Pass are in 1 Area. They can both be found at Booster Pass Area 1. The treasure chest at the top left of the area contains a flower while the 2nd chest located to your right, near the exit contains a rock candy.

Booster Tower Secret Treasure Chests (18-21)

A total of 4 Secret Treasure Chests can be found in Booster Tower.

Goodie Bag location

The secret treasure chest is located on top of the treasure chest with a frog coin in Area 17 Save block room.

Marrymore secret treasure chest (22)

There is only 1 Secret Treasure chest in Marrymore and it is located inside the Regular Room of Marrymore Hotel.

Sunken Ship Lower level Area secret treasure chest (23)

There is only 1 Secret treasure chest in the Sunken Ship and it’s located at Lower Level Area 6 (Duplicate Mario room). A Kerokero Cola can be obtained inside the chest.

Lands End Secret treasure Chests (24-29)

There are a total of 6 Secret Treasure Chests in this level. 4 of these are located in Bean Valley and the other 2 can be found side by side at Belome Temple.

*We missed the 1st Secret Treasure Chest in Lands End on our walkthrough. Please see the gif image above to see how to get the Secret Treasure Chest at the Entrance of Lands End. The trick here is to jump once the moving platform moves to the very top while pressing the Up directional button to get the Secret Treasure Chest here.

Cave Area Secret Treasure Chest

The 4th Secret Treasure Chest for Lands End can be found at the Cave Area underneath Sky Bridge. Please read our Cricket Jam Guide for Super Mario RPG for directions on how to navigate the cave area.

Monstro Town Secret Treasure Chest (30)

There is only 1 Secret Treasure Chest in Monstro Town. It is located by the town’s entrance to the left of the green bush with pink flowers.

Bean Valley Secret Treasure Chests (31-33)

There are a total of 3 Secret Treasure Chests in Bean Valley.

Nimbus Land and Castle Secret Treasure Chests (34-38)

You can find 1 Secret Treasure Chest at the item shop in Nimbus Land and 4 more inside the castle making it a total of 5 Secret Treasure Chests in the area.

Secret Treasure Chest Upper Level Area 1

Another Secret Treasure Chest we overlooked in our walkthrough is the hidden chest on top of another chest in Secret Treasure Chest Upper Level Area 1. The secret chest contains 1 frog coin.

Secret Treasure Chest after Valentina Boss fight

The final Secret Treasure Chest will only be available after defeating Valentina and making her flee from Nimbus Land. The Secret Treasure Chest is located in the

Path to 2nd save Area in Nimbus Castle – Flower Tab

*This is also the place where you can get a flower inside the treasure box. After the Boss fight, the empty treasure chest will be replaced with a Secret Treasure Chest with a frog coin inside.

The Gate Secret Treasure Chest (39)

The final Secret Treasure Chest can be found in the Gate Area before Smithy’s Factory. The Secret Treasure Chest is located on the Area 5 Save Room and looting it’s contents will give you a recovery mushroom.

Secret Chest Tallier in Monstro Town

After collecting all 39 secret treasure chests in the game, Head over to Monstro Town and speak with the Secret Chest Tallier and report your progress. Getting all the secret treasure chests will have him congratulate you by saying “Wow, you’ve found them all”.
