How to Beat Trainer Tower Challenges in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

You can beat all four challenges in Trainer Tower by adequately preparing your Pokémon party, stocking up on healing and PP-restoring essentials, and strategizing well against the different trainers and Pokémon you will battle. This article is part of the Trainer Tower challenge series, so read up on the summary of Trainer Tower and its different modes below to plan your victory!

Trainer Tower

Trainer Tower is located on Sevii Islands’ Seventh Island. You gain access to the island at the later stages of the game, after doing Celio’s gemstones quest.

Trainer Tower

From the Poké Center, the Trainer Tower is north of the island. Go straight ahead until you reach the shore. You should see a route marker that says Trainer Tower ahead.

You need a Pokémon who knows the move Surf to cross the small body of water to get to the other part of the island.

When you get off your Pokémon, you should find yourself immediately outside of Trainer Tower.

The tower consists of a lobby with an in-house Poké Center and Poké Mart, as well as eight floors with a variable number of trainers depending on the challenge.

There are four challenges made available to you when you inquire at the receptionist. These are Single, Double, Knockout and Mixed modes.

The theme for all the Trainer Tower challenges is Time-Attack. Try to reach the topmost floor within record time.

You can find the current record (59 minutes, 59 seconds) on a poster in the lobby. This should be enough time to make it through all the floors to get to the rooftop and claim your prize.

Before undertaking any of the challenges, it’s highly recommended to stock up on healing items before making the climb. This is so you don’t waste the time given by coming back to the lobby each time your Pokémon loses HP or faints. Since the challenges have you face trainers consecutively, PP restoring items also make a difference in your strategy, so try to bring as much Ethers and Elixirs as you can.

Here’s Trainer Tower’s Poké Mart inventory for easier reference of what you can and cannot find in the lobby.

Take note that battling the trainers in Trainer Tower does not give you experience points or money. Also, all your opponent’s Pokémon will be of the same level as the strongest Pokémon in your party.

If you can, try to bring Pokémon that are more or less the same level or range so that everyone in your roster can pull their weight.

Single Battle Mode

As the name suggests, you face a single trainer with one Pokémon per floor. Here’s the full guide on conquering Trainer Tower’s first challenge.
